Junquillal Costa Rica sits along the Pacific Ocean on the Nicoya Peninsula in the province of Guanacaste. The area really consists of two beaches: Playa Junquillal to the north and Playa Venado to the south. The area is accessed via the main road that goes to Paraiso (5 minutes away) and then to 27 de Abril, Santa Cruz and Liberia, where the international airport is located (1 hour and 15 minutes away). Businesses at Playa Junquillal include many restaurants , small hotels, and tour operators and supermarkets. Larger developments at Junquillal include Iguanazul and Tierras del Pacifico, home to Hotelito Si Si Si. You can find info on these here (link to businesses page). Visitors enjoy the fact that Junquillal is still relatively quiet, despite the fact that it is one of the area's most beautiful, sandy beaches. There are also some nice surf spots. Playa Venado is even less trafficked and has a nice estuary where you can fish. Junquillal is also an important nesting site for Leatherback Turtles and Eastern Pacific Green Turtles. The World Wildlife Federation has a program in place to protect their nests.
